James is pointing out that under the Mosaic law (old testament) if you broke one law (a total of 613 laws including the 10 commandments) you were just as guilty as if you had broken all of the laws. Showing partiality to the rich over the poor makes you guilty of breaking the law under the old testament. The law was brought to show each one that no one could keep the law, it was too difficult.  The Jews had to make animal sacrifices in order to have their sins covered once a year.  However, because of Jesus, who was perfect, He paid the price once and for all when He became the human sacrifice for all mankind. We become forgiven and righteous when we accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior.

Remember, you are not going to be perfect but you can sure make progress each and every day to live better than you previously were. Aim to make progress in your walk with Jesus and watch how far you can go.

Closing Prayer: Heavenly Father, guide me as I strive to maintain high standards for my life and decisions. Though I may falter and make mistakes, I commit to recognizing and correcting them, becoming more like You. Thank You for your constant presence and for guiding me on the path to successful living through Jesus Christ in Jesus name Amen.
